Essex County VA lies just outside the Norfolk to Washington urban crescent, centrally located on Virginia’s Middle Peninsula. An area rich in history, the area offers visitors and local residents alike a rich cultural experience deeply rooted in colonial Virginia. The historic cities of Fredericksburg is located just 40 miles to the south and Williamsburg just 55 miles to the southeast. The only incorporated town Essex, Tappahannock is located on the shores of the beautiful Rappahannock River. In less than three square miles Tappahannock boasts many positive features including a historic downtown, waterfront, residential subdivisions, a business corridor development, and extensive wetland areas.
